Rousing the household at 6am was thankfully easier than I anticipated this week. School started Monday for everyone, and the kids cooperated well with ending the holiday schedule and getting back into a good routine. Yay!
The boys leave at 7:30, with Malachi driving them to their Christian school. After they get out the door, the younger kids take over the kitchen and bathrooms, with the goal of starting homeschool at 8:30. We've missed the mark most of the days this week, but have gotten all our work done. We're beginning this week's school with a read-a-loud and hot drinks.
I have coffee and read Mountain Born.
The kids listen while drinking hot chocolate and coloring.
A pleasant way to ease back into the hard work of school.
Another pleasant thing-
Jackson wanted to help Alaina practice her phonograms.
He pointed to each one on a chart while Alaina chanted them. Sweet!
You may have heard about the flooding that the Midwest has been experiencing over the holidays. It was unusually warm, and we had TONS of rain. (We are all safe, with just a bit of flooding in our basement.) The weather turned cold again as school got back underway, so we have been having recess in our dried out basement. It is now pretty cheery down there thanks to my friend Beth who gave us some "new" furniture! Thanks, Beth! We love it! We brought our boom box down, and the kids run around like wild hooligans to the music and get all their wiggles out.
(Mom - the red love seat makes out into a bed, so it's all yours when you come for Jackson's bday! And all you other friends and family, just let us know when you want us to get you on the calendar for your visit!!!….Kara? Tiff? Brenda? Katie? others????!!! We're ready for you!)
Beth also blessed us with this awesome chair,
which we are enjoying as we play Spot It.
and play toys.
I hope you are enjoying getting back into your routine as well!
