Christmas Traditions - Christmas Storybooks

Here is the second post in our Christmas Traditions series. (Most of the things we do did not originate with me, but I adopted them from various people, and now I think we have a rich and special way of celebrating the Christmas season and the coming of the Savior of the world.  If you already have traditions, then just enjoy the photos!  If you are looking for ideas, maybe you'll find something you  like.)

When my first child was a baby, a friend showed me her collection of Christmas storybooks.  During her childhood, her parents bought her one new book each year, and by the time she was grown, she had a whole collection of Christmas books.  I loved the idea, and shared it with my sister and sister-in-law.  We buy a new book for each other as well as our own families, and now we each have a wonderful collection of all sorts of Christmas stories.  The kids love getting the books out of the Christmas box, and we enjoy reading them together with hands wrapped around steaming cups of hot chocolate, or sucking on candy canes (or binkies as the case may be!).

Some of our favorites are:

  • The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey, by Susan Wojciechowski
  • Letters from Father Christmas, by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Christmas Tapestry, by Patricia Polacco
  • Babar and Father Christmas, by Jean De Brunhoff
  •  and now that we are far away from home - The Twelve Days of Christmas in Washington, by John Abbot Nez
If you have a particular Christmas storybook that your family just LOVES, would you share it in the comment section with all of us?
